It has been a busy summer for Newry BID with lots happening on the ground and from a lobbying perspective.
Over July and August we, once again hosted our ‘Summer in the City’ campaign with free music events and ice cream for example, on Saturdays and Sundays in the summer.
This concluded with our ongoing support for ‘Iur Cinn Fleadh’, a fabulous festival that is gaining momentum year on year. Congratulations to all the team on another fabulous festival programme, supporting Newry’s night-time economy.
Newry BID is also proud to support the roll out of the ever successful ‘Panic Station Comedy Club’ in venues right across Newry. This weekend’s offering will be in the Bank, with the INF following after this. It has also been hosted in The Oliver, Finegan & Son, Town Hall, Bosco and Newry Market to date. Well done to Liane and Darren for bringing quality comedy to Newry.
We continue to work very closely with the PSNI on tackling retail crime and anti-social behaviour in the city centre. We hope to have some statistics from the PSNI on this in the weeks ahead.
We continue to work closely with River’s Agency and other bodies in relation to flood risk alleviation. See below for a further update.
Newry BID will be represented on a Regeneration Working Group for Newry City. This will be an over-arching body focusing on regeneration/investment for Newry with sub groups formed as appropriate. We will keep members updated on how this progresses.
We will be rolling out our ‘Health in the City’ initiative bigger and better early next year, while for the remainder of this year, we will be working on our Halloween and Christmas marketing.

Fake £50 Notes
We have been made aware of fake £50 notes in circulation in the wider Newry area recently. We are particularly concerned about Bank of Scotland tender. Can we please ask all members to be vigilant.
Flood Resilience Group
We continue to build on the outcomes of the recent meeting with River’s Agency in relation to flooding. We are advancing with plans for a Flood Resilience Group for Newry.
So far we have had 91 businesses express an interest in being part of this Group. We are proposing to meet again with representatives from River’s Agencies in the coming weeks to advance this agenda.

Business Breakfast Invitation
As part of our ongoing relationship with Hospitality Ulster we have been asked to extend an invitation to Newry BID members to a Stakeholder Breakfast looking at ‘Future Trends: The Industry and the Workforce.
This will take place on Tuesday 1st October from 8am- 9.30am.
It is being held at Ulster University Belfast. Academy Restaurant, York Street, Belfast, BT15 1ED.
