We continue to be busy with Health in the City Month. There are lots more activities and events to get involved in. Please see below for more information.

    Please do also get involved in the St Patrick’s Day activities across the weekend. We have a Choral Trail on Thursday 14th and Bikes & Beats on Sunday 16th March as well as lots happening across the city on Monday 17th March. The weather is looking good too.

    We have a Newry/Dundalk Recruitment Event on 13th March in Buttercrane Shopping Centre and two conferences coming up that you should consider attending – one from PCSP on Violence Against Women and Girls and one from Bolster Community about Everyday Heroes- looking a range of societal issues. Please do support these if you can.

    There is also an opportunity to nominate your Local Hero for the Bolster event- see details below.
    We have the date for the next Flood Resilience Group meeting. Please sign up below to advise if you can attend.

    In relation to our recent social media activity- with Health in the City and a number of profiling opportunities for businesses through competitions and events promotion, we have been working on increasing our social media reach. For example, on Facebook in the last 28 days (up to 10th March) we have had 275,925 views of our content and an increase of 146 followers. This brings our total following up to 16,440 on Facebook alone.
    This gives us a significant platform to promote Newry BID and its ongoing activities. Please do advise if you wish to use this platform to support your business.

    Health in the City

     

    We are now into week four of Health in the City. We have a number of highlights this week which we would appreciate your support for.

    MONDAY 11TH MARCH
    Today we have a Be Positive Workshop from PIPS Hope and Support- 1-2pm at their premises in Mill Street. There are a couple of spaces left. Lunch is provided. Contact PIPS to book or come along. Call 023 30266195.

    THURSDAY 13TH MARCH
    Singing is known to be beneficial to your health in many ways so we are delighted to be hosting a Choral Trail on Thursday 13th March with Newry Community Choir. All are welcome. The choir expect to be in:

    • Catholic Working Man’s Club at 7pm
    • Canal Court Hotel 7.40pm
    • Magee’s Bar 8.20pm

    They will be singing a mix of traditional and modern songs to mark St. Patrick’s Day.

    FRIDAY 14TH MARCH
    Do you know, or are you, an older person who would benefit from friendship, events and social activities?  Newry U3A has a fantastic group in Newry with lots happening every week. On Friday 14th March from 1.30pm-3pm they are hosting a free lunch at their premises in Ballybot House (Room 1) for anyone interested in finding out what they do. For catering purposes, please contact office@newryu3a.org.uk if you plan to attend.

    SUNDAY 16TH MARCH
    Bikes & Beats
    On Sunday 16th March we will be hosting our popular Bikes & Beats event. This is a cycling tour of Newry City with the music pumping to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. This is great fun for all the family. Please support if you can. There are refreshment stops along the way. Take all the family and your bikes and simply turn up at the top of Albert Basin at 2pm for a great afternoon’s craic.
    Newry BID is also sponsoring live music on Sunday and Monday at Buttercrane Shopping Centre.

    Connect - Challenge – Change

    Working in partnership towards Ending Violence Against Women & Girls in Newry, Mourne & Down
    Stakeholder Conference, 25 March 2025 (9.30am-2pm), Canal Court Hotel Newry

    Women and Girls do not always feel safe in Northern Ireland. This needs to change.
    Network, share ideas to effect change and hear from leading experts as we foster local conversations on making our District a safer place for women & girls.

    The Executive Office Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWAG) Momentum Funding is supporting Newry, Mourne & Down District Council to roll out a range of activities aimed at educating communities, promoting safe and healthy relationships and helping women to feel safe. 

    Join PCSP for its inaugural EVAWG Stakeholder Conference on 25 March 2025 where we will look at how we can all work together to tackle this issue and plan for a #SafeHerNMD.

    Alexander Hanna

    We are very sad to note that Alexander Hanna Paint shop will be closing on Friday after 85 years trading in Newry. They will be sadly missed on Water Street and across the city. We wish all the family and team well for the future.
